Weekly Initial Unemployment Claims Decrease 15,000 to 213,000

In the week ending November 23, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 213,000, a decrease of 15,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 227,000 to 228,000. The 4-week moving average was 219,750, a decrease of 1,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 221,000 to 221,250.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.1 percent for the week ending November 16, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending November 16 was 1,640,000, a decrease of 57,000 from the previous week's revised level. This is the lowest level for insured unemployment since August 4, 1973 when it was 1,633,000. The previous week's level was revised up 2,000 from 1,695,000 to 1,697,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,680,500, a decrease of 13,000 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 500 from 1,693,000 to 1,693,500.
