DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer decreased by 0.2%
For the week ending September 5, 2009, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer gave up -0.2 percent following three consecutive weeks of solid gains. Because the barometer is roughly a measure of weekly GDP it tracked the broad economy as the severe recession turned milder, and finally found recovery in the third quarter. With one month to go, the barometer’s performance suggests that the economy will expand at faster than a 2 percent rate in Q3 and indeed, other preliminary data suggests the economy could turn out growth between 3 and 4 percent. Not a bad start to economic recovery, if the U.S. economy can sustain it.
