DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer up by 0.1%
For the week ending November 28, 2009, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer increased +0.1 percent after falling -0.4 percent in the prior week. Inflation-adjusted chain store sales were very disappointing, especially given the fact that part of the Black Friday holiday shopping weekend was captured in this report. But customer surveys so far show that a good deal of consumers are waiting until later to complete their holiday shopping. Home purchasing activity continued to come in unseasonably strong thanks to the extension of the first-time home buyer tax credit, but was one of only a handful of bright spots in this week’s report as overall 70 percent of the barometer’s components were down.
