DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer increased 0.3%
For the week ending September 25, 2010, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer reversed course by increasing +0.3 percent following a decline of the same magnitude in the prior week. Although the barometer finished the third quarter on a strong note, overall growth slowed compared to the second quarter. Sources of growth in the economy flip-flopped from the second to the third quarter with the consumption side of the barometer accounting for all of the growth in the third quarter, while the production side of the barometer had driven growth in the second quarter. While we need both sides of the equation to effect a stronger recovery, we are encouraged by signs that consumers are finally waking up after a long slumber.
