DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer dropped -0.9%
For the week ending June 6, 2009, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer dropped -0.9 percent following an upward revised increase of +0.1 percent in the prior week. In the latest week, seasonally adjusted auto production dropped by -20.4 percent while truck production fell by -16.1 percent. This is a time when auto factories are typically coming back on line following shutdowns for retooling, but instead many shutdowns remain in effect due to the bankruptcy restructuring of Chrysler and GM. Therefore, the seasonal adjustment factors will tend to overcorrect. Better to look at the smoothed data series for the barometer instead which shows a small decline of -0.1 percent in the latest week.
