DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer increased by 0.1%
For the week ending September 26, 2009, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer increased +0.1 percent compared to a small decline in the prior week. The business barometer turned around in the third quarter and was lead higher by the components of production, most notably a jump in steel as motor vehicle assemblies went into overdrive following the cash-for-clunkers program. Consumption components were stable it the third quarter, but it was driven by strong performance in the front-end followed by notable weakness over the past three weeks, which means the momentum for household spending going into the all-important holiday shopping season is not as strong as we’d like.
