Weekly Initial Unemployment Claims Increase 13,000 to 282,000
In the week ending December 5, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 282,000, an increase of 13,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 269,000. The 4-week moving average was 270,750, an increase of 1,500 from the previous week's unrevised average of 269,250. There were no special factors impacting this week's initial claims.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.7 percent for the week ending November 28, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending November 28 was 2,243,000, an increase of 82,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 2,161,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,183,000, an increase of 16,500 from the previous week's unrevised average of 2,166,500.
