DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer increased by 0.1%
For the week ending August 15, 2009, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer increased by +0.1 percent following an upward revised decline of -0.1 percent in the prior week. The cash-for-clunkers program, which has inarguably skewed vehicle sales toward autos and away from trucks in the third quarter, can be seen in the details of the barometer. Auto production has increased for three consecutive weeks, while truck production has continued to decline. Above average temps across much of the country in the latest week also caused a jump in electric output. Curiously, the higher temps weren’t enough to drive consumers indoors as box office receipts were down.
