ICSC Chain Store Sales Up 0.1% In July 4 Wk
The International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index edged up 0.1% in the week ended Saturday from its level a week before on a seasonally adjusted, comparable-store basis. On a year-on-year basis, retailers saw sales rise 0.5% in the latest week.
Michael P. Niemira, ICSC chief economist, said sales for the industry were uneven in June, since the first half of the month was softer than the second. He added sales also were uneven regionally and by type of retailer, as dollar stores and stores offering "a wide array of staples" performed best through the month.
