New York Purchasing Managers Business Activity rebounded to 65.8 in October

New York City business activity bounced back sharply after the first contraction in eight months, according to the survey taken by the Institute for Supply Management-New York (ISM-NY). Relief was recorded in questions related to the New York metro area, but not in questions related to company-specific activities.
New York Metro. Current Business Conditions rose to a three-month high of 65.8 in October. The Six-Month Outlook increased to a four-month high of 74.0 in October.
Company Specific. Job growth and purchase volume both contracted back to back for the first time in three years. Employment came in at 46.3 in October. Quantity of Purchases registered 46.2 in October.
Both the top line and forward guidance have cooled. Current Revenues were 54.2 in October and posted the slowest two-month expansion in two years. Expected Revenues eased to a two-year low of 58.3 in October.
Price pressures diminished. Costs and selling prices were lower. Prices Paid fell to a two-year low of 46.2 in October, and Prices Received dropped to 40.9 in October, the lowest in at least two years.
Opportunities/Impediments: Cost of benefits andinflation were at the top of the impediment scale, with five others tied for third. Top opportunities were domestic demand, foreign demand and energy costs.
