DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer down -0.3%
For the week ending October 11, 2008, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer declined by -0.3 percent following a small gain of +0.1 percent in the prior week. The deepening financial crisis, which has caused a world slowdown in economic activity, is having a noticeable affect on the barometer’s production components. In particular, steel production has fallen significantly over the past three weeks on unwinding prices and lower demand for steel-based products (such as autos and heavy equipment).
