ICSC Chain Store Sales Up 0.6% In Aug 22 Wk
The International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index was up 0.6% in the week ended Saturday from its level a week before on a seasonally adjusted, comparable-store basis. On a year-on-year basis, retailers saw sales decrease 0.2% in the latest week as struggles continue.
Michael P. Niemira, ICSC chief economist, noted the week-to-week bounces continue. Boosting results were last week's heat in the Northeast, which aided sales of fans and air conditioners. He added the industry group continues to expected overall sales to be down 3.5% to 4% from a year ago.
