DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer Up 0.4%
For the week ending May 23, 2009, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer increased +0.4 percent on broad improvement in both the consumer and production side of the barometer. May is shaping up to post a similar decline in activity to April, but both months slowed their decline considerably when compared to the first three months of the year. So far the barometer points to an approximately -2 percent decline in GDP for Q2 2009, a much slower pace of decline compared to the past two quarters, and perhaps the final quarter of contraction in the long recession that began in December 2007.
