ICSC Chain Store Sales fell 0.4% In Mar 21 Wk
The International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index fell by 0.4% in the week to March 21 from its level a week before, on a seasonally-adjusted, comparable store basis. This result Tuesday followed a 0.1% decrease in the prior week.
"Although there are signs that consumer confidence is improving in recent weeks, consumer spending continues to struggle - though not any worse than earlier in the year," said Michael P. Niemira, ICSC chief economist. On a year-on-year basis, retailers saw sales decline by 1.4% in the latest week.
