Goods and Services Deficit Decreases in May 2009
The Nation's international deficit in goods and services decreased to $26.0 billion in May from $28.8 billion (revised) in April, as exports increased and imports decreased.

Exports increased to $123.3 billion in May from $121.4 billion in April. Goods were $82.1 billion in May, up from $80.0 billion in April, and services were $41.3 billion in May, down from $41.4 billion in April.
Imports decreased to $149.3 billion in May from $150.2 billion in April. Goods were $119.4 billion in May, down from $119.9 billion in April, and services were $29.9 billion in May, down from $30.3 billion in April.
For goods, the deficit was $37.3 billion in May, down from $39.9 billion in April. For services, the surplus was $11.4 billion in May, up from $11.1 billion in April.
