ICSC Chain Store Sales up 0.6% in Mar 27 Wk
The ICSC-Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index rose 0.6% in the week ended Saturday from the week before on a seasonally adjusted, comparable-store basis. The increase--the second straight--came as sales "remained encouraging" and consumers flocked to stores for seasonal and Easter-related merchandise, ICSC said.
"Sales posted a healthy gain during the past week but overall results were impacted by mixed influences with weather uneven across the nation," ICSC chief economist Michael Niemira said. "Easter-related and other seasonal spending strengthened as consumers continued to release some of their pent-up demand." On a year-on-year basis, the reading rose 3.2% last week.
