ICSC Chain Store Sales unchanged In Feb 6 Wk
The International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index was unchanged in the week to Feb. 7 from its level a week before, on a seasonally-adjusted, comparable store basis. On a year-on-year basis, retailers saw sales decline by 1.8% in the latest week.
"Milder weather helped traffic flow a tad this past week, but consumers remain focused on staples (food, drug) and continue to stretch their dollar by shopping at dollar stores," said Michael P. Niemira, ICSC chief economist. The weekly result Tuesday followed a 1.6% rise in the prior week and a 1.8% decline in the week before that.
