ICSC Chain Store Sales Up 0.5% In Oct 25 Week
The International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index increased 0.5% in the week to Oct. 25 from its level a week before, on a seasonally-adjusted, comparable store basis. This result Tuesday followed a 1.6% decline in the prior week and a 0.7% rise in the week before that.
"Retailers sales saw a slight bounce in the latest week with drug stores posting the largest week-over-week improvement," said Michael P. Niemira, ICSC chief economist "Overall, consumers continue to spend modestly and mainly on everyday items." On a year-on-year basis, retailers saw sales increase by 1.3% in the latest week. That compares with a rise of 0.9% year-on-year the prior week.
