Wholesale Inventories up 2.2% in April 2022

April 2022 sales of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences but not for price changes, were $691.6 billion, up 0.7 percent (±0.4 percent) from the revised March level and were up 20.9 percent (±1.1 percent) from the revised April 2021 level. The February 2022 to March 2022 percent change was revised from the preliminary estimate of up 1.7 percent (±0.5 percent) to up 1.8 percent (±0.5 percent).
Total inventories of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences, but not for price changes, were $861.8 billion at the end of April, up 2.2 percent (±0.2 percent) from the revised March level. Total inventories were up 24.0 percent (±1.4 percent) from the revised April 2021 level. The March 2022 to April 2022 percent change was revised from the advance estimate of up 2.1 percent (±0.2 percent) to up 2.2 percent (±0.2 percent).
The April Inventories/Sales Ratio for merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, based on seasonally adjusted data, was 1.25. The April 2021 ratio was 1.21.
