DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer down -1.1%
For the week ending February 28, 2009, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer declined by -1.1 percent on top of -0.6 percent in the prior week. The barometer has now fallen to its lowest reading since April 1994. In terms of diffusion, 80 percent of the barometer’s components were down in the latest week with the largest negative contribution coming from a sharp drop in truck production. Thus far in 2009, the consumption side of the barometer has held up while the production side has plummeted – reflecting the severe drop-off in business and consumer goods orders, as well as foreign demand for U.S. goods.
