DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer down -0.7%
For the week ending October 18, 2008, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer declined by -0.7 percent, and has not posted a gain in seven weeks. An all-out financial panic has permeated the consumer sector of the economy driving auto production to new lows, causing chain store sales to tank, and housing activity to fall off the map. Through the summer of 2008, the barometer was exhibiting a pronounced slowdown in economic growth, but has since fallen very sharply in a very short amount of time.
