ICSC Chain Store Sales Up 1.6% In June 27 Wk
The International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index were up 1.6% in the week ended Saturday from its level a week before on a seasonally adjusted, comparable-store basis. On a year-on-year basis, retailers saw sales rise 0.6% in the latest week.
Michael P. Niemira, ICSC chief economist, said hot weather late in the week helped trigger spending. He said the late-June sales spark was a welcome sign for the industry, but said for the month as a whole, sales continue on track for a "tough month."
