Weekly Initial Unemployment Claims Increase 4,000 to 214,000
In the week ending October 12, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 214,000, an increase of 4,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 210,000. The 4-week moving average was 214,750, an increase of 1,000 from the previous week's unrevised average of 213,750.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2 percent for the week ending October 5, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending October 5 was 1,679,000, a decrease of 10,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up 5,000 from 1,684,000 to 1,689,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,669,750, an increase of 3,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 1,250 from 1,665,000 to 1,666,250.
