DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer up by 1.8%
For the week ending January 2, 2010, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer jumped +1.8 percent after falling by -0.9 percent in the prior week. The barometer’s volatility over the past two weeks is reflective of the typical distortion experienced each year when auto factory shutdowns surrounding the floating holidays of Christmas and New Year’s make seasonal adjustment difficult at best. Outside of the production side of the barometer, home buying activity and inflation-adjusted chain store sales were very strong in the latest week.
