Wholesale Inventories up 0.1% in December 2022

December 2022 sales of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences but not for price changes, were $687.8 billion, virtually unchanged (±0.5 percent)* from the revised November level, but were up 7.3 percent (±0.7 percent) from the revised December 2021 level. The October 2022 to November 2022 percent change was revised from the preliminary estimate of down 0.6 percent (±0.5 percent) to down 1.4 percent (±0.5 percent).
Total inventories of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences, but not for price changes, were $932.9 billion at the end of December, up 0.1 percent (±0.2 percent)* from the revised November level. Total inventories were up 17.6 percent (±0.7 percent) from the revised December 2021 level. The November 2022 to December 2022 percent change was unrevised from the advance estimate of up 0.1 percent (±0.2 percent)*.
The December Inventories/Sales Ratio for merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, based on seasonally adjusted data, was 1.36. The December 2021 ratio was 1.24.
