DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer increased by 0.2%
For the week ending August 1, 2009, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer increased +0.2 percent following three consecutive weeks of decline. In the latest week the production side of the barometer came out swinging with a decline only in the lumber component. In the month of July, North American production of motor vehicles experienced its smallest annual decline so far this year, down -33.5 percent, and production is expected to pick up greatly on the heels of the cash-for-clunkers program, which cleared inventories to record low levels. We expect the barometer to reflect the early success of cash-for-clunkers program over the next few weeks.
