Goods and Services Deficit Increased in June 2010

The Nation’s international trade deficit in goods and services increased to $49.9 billion in June from $42.0 billion (revised) in May, as imports increased and exports decreased.

The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, through the Department of Commerce, announced today that total June exports of $150.5 billion and imports of $200.3 billion resulted in a goods and services deficit of $49.9 billion, up from $42.0 billion in May, revised. June exports were $2.0 billion less than May exports of $152.4 billion. June imports were $5.9 billion more than May imports of $194.4 billion.

In June, the goods deficit increased $7.7 billion from May to $62.0 billion, and the services surplus decreased $0.2 billion to $12.1 billion. Exports of goods decreased $2.3 billion to $105.0 billion, and imports of goods increased $5.4 billion to $167.0 billion. Exports of services increased $0.3 billion to $45.5 billion, and imports of services increased $0.6 billion to $33.3 billion.

The goods and services deficit increased $22.8 billion from June 2009 to June 2010. Exports were up $22.6 billion, or 17.7 percent, and imports were up $45.3 billion, or 29.2 percent.

The Nation’s international trade deficit in goods and services increased to $42.3 billion in May from $40.3 billion (revised) in April, as imports increased more than exports.

The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, through the Department of Commerce, announced today that total May exports of $152.3 billion and imports of $194.5 billion resulted in a goods and services deficit of $42.3 billion, up from $40.3 billion in April, revised. May exports were $3.5 billion more than April exports of $148.7 billion. April imports were $5.5 billion more than April imports of $189.0 billion.

In May, the goods deficit increased $1.9 billion from April to $54.5 billion, and the services surplus was virtually unchanged at $12.2 billion. Exports of goods increased $3.0 billion to $107.2 billion, and imports of goods increased $4.9 billion to $161.7 billion. Exports of services increased $0.6 billion to $45.0 billion, and imports of services increased $0.6 billion to $32.9 billion.

The goods and services deficit increased $17.4 billion from May 2009 to May 2010. Exports were up $26.4 billion, or 21.0 percent, and imports were up $43.8 billion, or 29.1 percent.

The Nation’s international trade deficit in goods and services increased to $40.3 billion in April from $40.0 billion (revised) in March, as exports decreased more than imports.

The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, through the Department of Commerce, announced today that total April exports of $148.8 billion and imports of $189.1 billion resulted in a goods and services deficit of $40.3 billion, up from $40.0 billion in March, revised. April exports were $1.0 billion less than March exports of $149.8 billion. April imports were $0.8 billion less than March imports of $189.9 billion.

In April, the goods deficit increased $0.1 billion from March to $52.5 billion, and the services surplus decreased $0.1 billion to $12.2 billion. Exports of goods decreased $1.1 billion to $104.0 billion, and imports of goods decreased $1.0 billion to $156.5 billion. Exports of services increased $0.1 billion to $44.8 billion, and imports of services increased $0.2 billion to $32.6 billion.

The goods and services deficit increased $11.8 billion from April 2009 to April 2010. Exports were up $24.7 billion, or 19.9 percent, and imports were up $36.5 billion, or 23.9 percent.

The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, through the Department of Commerce, announced today that total March exports of $147.9 billion and imports of $188.3 billion resulted in a goods and services deficit of $40.4 billion, up from $39.4 billion in February, revised. March exports were $4.6 billion more than February exports of $143.3 billion. March imports were $5.6 billion more than February imports of $182.7 billion.

In March, the goods deficit increased $1.8 billion from February to $52.9 billion, and the services surplus increased $0.8 billion to $12.5 billion. Exports of goods increased $4.2 billion to $102.7 billion, and imports of goods increased $6.0 billion to $155.6 billion. Exports of services increased $0.4 billion to $45.2 billion, and imports of services decreased $0.4 billion to $32.7 billion.

The goods and services deficit increased $11.6 billion from March 2009 to March 2010. Exports were up $25.0 billion, or 20.4 percent, and imports were up $36.6 billion, or 24.2 percent.

The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, through the Department of Commerce, announced today that total February exports of $143.2 billion and imports of $182.9 billion resulted in a goods and services deficit of $39.7 billion, up from $37.0 billion in January, revised. February exports were $0.3 billion more than January exports of $142.9 billion. February imports were $3.0 billion more than January imports of $179.8 billion.

In February, the goods deficit increased $1.9 billion from January to $51.3 billion, and the services surplus decreased $0.8 billion to $11.6 billion. Exports of goods increased $0.1 billion to $98.5 billion, and imports of goods increased $2.0 billion to $149.8 billion. Exports of services increased $0.2 billion to $44.7 billion, and imports of services increased $1.0 billion to $33.1 billion.

In February, the goods and services deficit increased $13.2 billion from February 2009. Exports were up $17.9 billion, or 14.3 percent, and imports were up $31.1 billion, or 20.5 percent.

The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, through the Department of Commerce, announced today that total January exports of $142.7 billion and imports of $180.0 billion resulted in a goods and services deficit of $37.3 billion, down from $39.9 billion in December, revised. January exports were $0.5 billion less than December exports of $143.2 billion. January imports were $3.1 billion less than December imports of $183.1 billion.

In January, the goods deficit decreased $2.5 billion from December to $49.4 billion, and the services surplus increased $0.1 billion to $12.1 billion. Exports of goods decreased $0.7 billion to $98.4 billion, and imports of goods decreased $3.2 billion to $147.8 billion. Exports of services increased $0.2 billion to $44.3 billion, and imports of services increased $0.1 billion to $32.2 billion.

In January, the goods and services deficit increased $0.4 billion from January 2009. Exports were up $18.7 billion, or 15.1 percent, and imports were up $19.1 billion, or 11.9 percent.

The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, through the Department of Commerce, announced today that total December exports of $142.7 billion and imports of $182.9 billion resulted in a goods and services deficit of $40.2 billion, up from $36.4 billion in November, revised. December exports were $4.6 billion more than November exports of $138.1 billion. December imports were $8.4 billion more than November imports of $174.5 billion.

In December, the goods deficit increased $3.4 billion from November to $51.8 billion, and the services surplus decreased $0.4 billion to $11.7 billion. Exports of goods increased $4.6 billion to $99.1 billion, and imports of goods increased $8.1 billion to $150.9 billion. Exports of services were virtually unchanged at $43.6 billion, and imports of services increased $0.3 billion to $31.9 billion.

In December, the goods and services deficit decreased $1.7 billion from December 2008. Exports were up $9.8 billion, or 7.4 percent, and imports were up $8.1 billion, or 4.6 percent.

The Nation’s international trade deficit increased to $36.4 billion in November from $33.2 billion (revised) in October, as imports increased more than exports.

Exports increased to $138.2 billion in November from $137.0 billion in October. Goods were $94.6 billion in November, up from $93.5 billion in October, and services were $43.6 billion in November, up from $43.5 billion in October.

Imports increased to $174.6 billion in November from $170.2 billion in October. Goods were $143.0 billion in November, up from $138.6 billion in October, and services were $31.6 billion in November, virtually unchanged from October.

For goods, the deficit was $48.4 billion in November, up from $45.2 billion in October. For services, the surplus was $12.0 billion in November, virtually unchanged from October.

For goods, the deficit was $44.8 billion in October, down from $47.4 billion in September. For services, the surplus was $11.9 billion in October, up from $11.7 billion in September.

For December, the goods and services deficit decreased to $39.9 billion from $41.6 billion (revised) in November. Exports decreased $8.5 billion from November to $133.8 billion in December. Goods were $88.7 billion in December, down from $97.0 billion in November, and services were $45.1 billion in December, down from $45.3 billion in November. Imports decreased $10.2 billion from November to $173.7 billion in December. Goods were $140.3 billion in December, down from $150.3 billion in November, and services were $33.4 billion in December, down from $33.6 billion in November.

Goods and Services
The goods and services deficit was $677.1 billion in 2008, down from $700.3 billion in 2007. As a percentage of U.S. gross domestic product, the goods and services deficit was 4.7 percent in 2008, down from 5.1 percent in 2007.

Exports increased $197.2 billion to $1,843.0 billion in 2008. Goods were $1,291.3 billion and services were $551.6 billion.

Imports increased $174.1 billion to $2,520.1 billion in 2008. Goods were $2,112.5 billion and services were $407.6 billion.

For goods, the deficit was $821.2 billion in 2008, up from $819.4 billion in 2007. For services, the surplus was $144.1 billion in 2008, up from $119.1 billion in 2007.
