ICSC Chain Store Sales rose 1.0% In July 25 Wk
The International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index rose 1% in the week ended Saturday from its level a week before on a seasonally adjusted, comparable-store basis. On a year-on-year basis, retailers saw sales decline 0.5% in the latest week.
Michael P. Niemira, ICSC chief economist, said retailers saw another week of increased sales as traffic rose. The firm expects industry sales for July to be off about 5.5% from a year earlier with "leaner clearance than last year hurting the reported sales pace," he said.
