Weekly Initial Unemployment Claims Decrease 9,000 to 214,000
In the week ending January 4, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 214,000, a decrease of 9,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 222,000 to 223,000. The 4-week moving average was 224,000, a decrease of 9,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 233,250 to 233,500.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2 percent for the week ending December 28, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending December 28 was 1,803,000, an increase of 75,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 1,728,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,744,750, an increase of 33,000 from the previous week's unrevised average of 1,711,750.
