Wholesale Inventories up 1.4% in March 2021

March 2021 sales of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences but not for price changes, were $567.9 billion, up 4.6 percent (±0.7 percent) from the revised February level and were up 19.0 percent (±1.1 percent) from the revised March 2020 level. The January 2021 to February 2021 percent change was revised from the preliminary estimate of down 0.8 percent (±0.7 percent) to virtually unchanged (±0.7 percent)*.
Total inventories of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences, but not for price changes, were $693.6 billion at the end of March, up 1.3 percent (±0.4 percent) from the revised February level. Total inventories were up 4.5 percent (±1.2 percent) from the revised March 2020 level. The February 2021 to March 2021 percent change was revised from the advance estimate of up 1.4 percent (±0.4 percent) to up 1.3 percent (±0.4 percent).
The March Inventories/Sales Ratio for merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, based on seasonally adjusted data, was 1.22. The March 2020 ratio was 1.39.
