Chicago PMI Recovered
The Chicago Purchasing Managers reported the CHICAGO BUSINESS BAROMETER recovered from the September stumble:
BUSINESS ACTIVITY:
PRICES PAID weakened;
NEW ORDERS and PRODUCTION reached highest rates in over a year;
EMPLOYMENT index continued to retreat at the August / September rate;
BUYING POLICY: All lead-times dropped sharply.
Just as the Chicago Business Barometer’s September stumble reflected generalized weakness in the component series, the October report was generally strong, but not overly dramatic. Unnoticed at first blush, the three month moving average (the shortterm trend) for each series was positive! If “good news” is in this report, and good news there is, this quiet fact may be the best news of all.
