Weekly Initial Unemployment Claims Increase 3,000 to 267,000

In the week ending September 19, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 267,000, an increase of 3,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 264,000. The 4-week moving average was 271,750, a decrease of 750 from the previous week's unrevised average of 272,500. There were no special factors impacting this week's initial claims.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.7 percent for the week ending September 12, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending September 12 was 2,242,000, a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up 6,000 from 2,237,000 to 2,243,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,251,750, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 1,500 from 2,256,250 to 2,257,750.
