ICSC Chain Store Sales Up 0.9% In Feb 14 Wk
The International Council of Shopping Centers and Goldman Sachs Retail Chain Store Sales Index increased 0.9% in the week ended Feb. 14 from its level a week before on a seasonally adjusted comparable-store basis. On a year-over-year basis, retailers saw sales decline 0.9% in the latest week.
"Sales posted a reasonably healthy week-over-week gain as seasonally warm weather combined [with] discounts helped to drive demand for spring fashion while Valentine's Day spending also contributed to the improvement," said Michael P. Niemira, ICSC chief economist. The weekly result Tuesday followed an unchanged reading in the prior week and a 1.6% rise in the week before that.
