DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer up by 0.3%
For the week ending March 6, 2010, the DJ-BTMU U.S. Business Barometer experienced a third consecutive gain, rising +0.3 percent on top of +0.5 percent in the prior week. After unusually severe storms in the Northeast stymied shopping plans at the end of February, spring came in like a lion with inflation-adjusted chain store sales rising +2.8 percent on the driest start to a March in 18 years according to Weather Trends International. The boost to chain store sales accounted for +0.5 percentage points of the barometer’s gain in the latest week proving just how important consumer spending is to the economic recovery.
