Wholesale Inventories up 0.5% in February 2024

February 2024 sales of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences but not for price changes, were $673.7 billion, up 2.3 percent (±0.4 percent) from the revised January level and were up 0.8 percent (±1.1 percent)* from the revised February 2023 level. The December 2023 to January 2024 percent change was revised from the Monthly Wholesale Annual Revision Report of down 1.8 percent (±0.4 percent) to down 1.4 percent (±0.4 percent).
Total inventories of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading day differences, but not for price changes, were $901.1 billion at the end of February, up 0.5 percent (±0.4 percent) from the revised January level. Total inventories were down 1.5 percent (±0.9 percent) from the revised February 2023 level. The January 2024 to February 2024 percent change was unrevised from the advance estimate of up 0.5 percent (±0.4 percent).
The February inventories/sales ratio for merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, based on seasonally adjusted data, was 1.34. The February 2023 ratio was 1.37.
